We went for lunch so we only got to try a portion of the menu but everything was amazing. The dumplings in hot oil is one of the best food items I've ever had. The twice-cooked pork was cooked perfect and the sauce was delicious. The Grand Marnier chicken was a little different than what I've usually had at Chinese food places but still excellent. The sauce had the right amount of sweetness and the fruit complements it well. As great as the food is, the service was even better. We must've been tended to by at least a half dozen different waiters. All of them were on point with water refills or anything we needed. It was like a well-oiled machine. The interior is beautiful and it's a great place for a nice family dinner. Run, do not walk, to this place.

I have been to many "Chinese American" restaurants in New Jersey. I was led to this place while looking for the best in NJ. This place came up and had a lot of reviews. I was impressed by the front entrance after parking in one of the many spaces in the front. The restaurant is beautiful with the Chinese restaurant decorations. The staff was friendly. I ordered my takeout there because the menu on their site lacked the lunch special. The food came out fast General 's lunch special with egg drop / wonton (some of the best I have ever had. Scallion pancake , ribs, chicken dumplings and shrimp fried rice. This was one of the best meals I have had in New Jersey. Now I cannot say it's the best in the United States that belongs to San Francisco. But if you want to taste what real American Chinese food should taste like and not the facsimile cooked in the hundreds of restaurants across the state come here. Like I said the service was great.

I had seen Hunan Taste on many "Best of" or "Most Authentic" lists for Chinese food. IMO it gets a 5+++ for atmosphere and a large menu. I really like Hunan Taste, I just don't LOVE it. Plenty of parking with a municipal lot behind it. Easy to get to location. Friendly, quick staff. Prices were fair. The best part of Hunan Taste is the decor both in\out. The outside greets you from a block away. Brightly lit with amazing detail. Wonderful koi pond. But it's the interior that will blow you away. Absolutely stunning! Plenty of dining rooms (open & private). Interior is so ornate down to the silk tablecloth & napkins and aquariums. Too visual to describe. Very cool! Full bar with many Asian \Pacific themed cocktails too. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the rest of my praise. The menu had many, many standards not just in the common Cantonese that every town has a few of, but also Mandarin and the popular (often spicy) Sichuan. Our party ordered a lot and we all shared ( as usual). THE FOOD Usually served on large platters to share ( family style) A Pu Pu Platter is a mix of hot hors d'oeuvre surrounding a lava flame to heat items up if wanted but more of a decoration. Everything was excellent: Shrimp toast ( not greasy or rubbery), egg rolls, ribs, dumplings, beef on a stick. --Spicy chicken dumplings ( another App) was spicy indeed but I wasn't a fan that they were kind of soggy. --Crab Rangoon (another App) was 4 large pieces; cooked perfectly, yet a little flat on taste. Entrees.... --Grand Marnier chicken with fresh fruit, golden sauce and cashews and --General Tso's chicken entrees were good and nice sized portions. --Hunan Duck was not crispy as it should have been. Served with vegetables it drowned in the Hunan sauce. Not too spicy either considered it was listed as a spicy dish. --Sauteed Seafood Combo was a mix of shrimp, scallops, and lobster in a light scallion sauce was just ok....Unfortunately all the entrees were just ok. I feel if you live in the area you should go just for the atmosphere and a decent dinner or drink. Is it the best in the state? IMO, not.

I've been here a few times. This place is by far the best Chinese restaurant in New Jersey... Grand Marnier walnut shrimp or chicken Grand Marnier, the best ! Everything is delicious. I don't have to tell you anything the interior impeccable, service impeccable. That's why they're noted as number one in New Jersey. Just get there ASAP.

The ambiance alone is reason enough to go. It's so well decorated and over the top in terms of decoration. It's amazing. The food I felt was on par for the prices, it wasn't mind blowingly good, but it was very good. Overall more expensive than your normal Chinese food though, so I felt it was about equal, especially because portion sizes were great. My only reason to not give it five stars was the service. I told the waiter that we were vegetarian when I asked what was in the edamame dumplings. He gave me a judgmental look and said "uh. It's edamame". We then later ordered hot and sour soup, which ended up having pork in it. (Guess he forgot we were vegetarian...). I gave it to someone else at the table because he did not offer to take it back. We later had a different waiter inform us the spring roll had shrimp in it, which I appreciated. It seemed as this waiter may have been an outlier, as everyone but him was very nice. A 5 star review would have included a "V" next to the vegetarian options, or a waiter who was less judgmental.

Even if you're not into Chinese food, you've got to admire the style that comes with it. My top-tier chums and I came here for lunch yesterday after The Pasta Shop had a 90-minute wait (which annoyed them/pretty much quashed any interest they had in trying to go back, and made me want to go even more - so it goes), and were rewarded with approximately a 30-second wait for a table here. Boy is there a lot to look at; I'm not going to risk using incorrect terminology in describing this building, but it's a lot. I'm assuming it's a fairly accurate interpretation of an "authentic" Chinese structure, but that's as far as I'm going. Very unique, very cool. And as someone who has spent a bit of time at a time vortex Chinese place in Rockland County of late, apparently aquariums are a big part of the decor. If you're looking for information on Hunan's authentic Chinese dishes, you've come to the wrong place - we went so basic, we might as well have ordered this with a side of Uggs and a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I ordered my tried and true Sweet & Sour Chicken, one top-tier chum ordered the Sesame Chicken, and the other top-tier chum ordered General Tso's Chicken. The edgiest item we procured were the steamed pork dumplings app to share. Everything here was very solid. These are obviously items that we'd typically get from a hole-in-the-wall takeout establishment, so it was a nice change of pace to eat the chicken off of actual plates (maybe most people do that too with their takeout orders, but I'm a barbarian through and through). The two keys for me when it comes to sweet & sour chicken are ensuring the chicken isn't overly deep fried where you're eating more fried skin than meat, and that the sauce is on the thicker side. Hunan checked off both boxes here, and since it was served with some vegetables, etc., there was some extra flavoring at play as well. The dumplings were very good as well. I've become more of a soup dumpling adherent in recent years, but I liked the seasoning in the pork and was pleased we got something other than generic chicken with our meal. The service overall was above average. I thought it slowed down noticeably towards the end, though we weren't in a rush or anything. But we'd clearly stopped eating and didn't receive a visit from anyone to pack up the leftovers for about 20 minutes - not egregious, and there were tons of staffers all over the place and it would have been very easy to hail someone down if the urgent need arose. Beyond that, everyone we interacted with was pleasant and efficient. One of my chums noted a party room in the back and was openly pondering the possibility of returning in the near future and hosting a birthday in there. I wasn't QUITE as blown away by this place as she was, but I'd definitely come back. But since I'm not a frisky teenager anymore, I sadly have to pick and choose my moments to chow down on Chinese food these days. The perils of Geriatric Oregon Trail Millennial-hood.
